Crews Work Throughout Weekend to Restore Power
Crews work throughout the Labor Day weekend to repair damage caused by Hurricane Hermine. Restoration of power is now complete.
Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) worked throughout the Labor Day Weekend to restore service to 19,209 metered locations that lost power because of damage done by Hurricane Hermine. Since early Friday morning, line crews have made nearly 450 trips to locations throughout a 2,000 square mile area to make repairs to SVEC’s electric system, including replacement of about 75 poles broken by the storm.
“I’m extremely proud of the dedication of our employees and the hard work they put in over the last four days,” said SVEC CEO, Michael McWaters. “I am also very grateful for the patience shown by our members and the encouragement they have given us through social media and other channels.”
SVEC crews have been assisted by others from electric cooperatives Baldwin EMC, Black Warrior Electric Cooperative, Central Alabama Electric Cooperative, CHELCO and Flint Energies; and from contractors Ivy H. Smith Company, J. Musgrove Construction, Inc. and Bryant Tree Service.
