Scammers Targeting Suwannee Valley Electric Members

Posted: June 16, 2017

Scammers are calling Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) members, pretending to be from a collection agency acting on behalf of the co-op. The scammers threaten to disconnect electric service unless they are given personal information, such as a bank account number, or paid with a credit or debit card.

“SVEC will never call and demand money over the phone,” said SVEC Director of Communications, Jon Little. “If a member receives a call demanding payment for an SVEC bill, they should hang up and call our Member Service Department at (800) 447-4509.”

Anyone who receives a call deemed fraudulent is also encouraged to report it to the Florida Attorney General’s Office at (866) 966-7226.
