Power Restoration Progressing at SVEC

Progress has been made in restoring power since Hurricane Debby impacted the cooperative’s community yesterday. All SVEC substations now have transmission service, and thanks to the dedicated efforts of lineworkers and vegetation management crews from SVEC and contractors, power has been restored to 17,000 of the 27,714 co-op consumer-members who lost power due to the hurricane.

About 200 additional workers arrived today, bringing the total to over 500. A mobile base camp has been set up at the co-op to ensure all visiting team members are well taken care of and can continue their hard work in the best conditions possible.

“I would like to thank our members for their continued patience and support through this challenging time,” says SVEC CEO Mike McWaters. “We continue to make progress, with some crews working through the night and others continuing their efforts until about 9:00 this evening and heading out again at the break of dawn.”
