Power Restoration and Damage Assessment Enter the Second Day

Approximately 850 workers from SVEC, contractors and mutual aid cooperatives are in the field this morning, simultaneously performing damage assessments and power restoration.

As of now, there have been 900 documented reports of damage to SVEC’s distribution system, including 234 broken poles. These numbers are anticipated to increase significantly in the coming days.

Seven out of SVEC’s 42 distribution feeders (17%) have been energized in the first 24 hours of restoration, and power has been restored to more than 2,100 consumers.

Four of SVEC’s 13 substations remain without power due to a loss of transmission services provided by Duke Energy. The substations without transmission service are Blackmon, Blair, Burnham and Stagecoach.

SVEC consumer-members with damage to their meter pole, meter box, or weather head should have a licensed electrician make these repairs. The repairs must be completed before their power can be safely restored.
