Power Restoration Full Speed Ahead at SVEC

Crews worked late into the night to restore power following Hurricane Debby. As of 7:00 a.m. today, power had been restored to over 6,300 consumers who lost power due to the storm. All substations have transmission service except for the Smith substation, serving the southwest portion of Lafayette County, including the town of Day. Duke continues to work diligently to have that service restored.

SVEC’s combined workforce of 271 lineworkers, vegetation management crews, and operations support had boots on the ground before daylight, and an additional 215 lineworkers are due to arrive later today. A base camp established at SVEC headquarters will sleep 350 mutual aid workers and feed 500 people three meals a day.

Hazardous conditions with debris, downed power lines and flooding remain scattered across SVEC’s service territory. The public is urged to use extreme caution and stay away from anything that may be in contact with a power line, as it may be energized.
