Restoration Effort Growing Rapidly Amid Extensive Damage to Electric System
Crews from SVEC and its contractors fanned out across the co-op’s 2,100 square mile service territory at 6:00 this morning to assess damage to the electric system and begin restoring power.
Some crews will work through the night, and 835 lineworkers, tree removal specialists and support staff will head out again first thing tomorrow, with an additional 100 arriving later in the day.
"In the face of three hurricanes within just over a year, our community has shown an extraordinary level of resilience and strength," expressed SVEC CEO Mike McWaters. " We are deeply moved by the perseverance of our consumer-members, and more committed than ever to restoring their power as quickly and safely as possible.”
Seven of SVEC’s 13 substations remain without power due to a loss of transmission services provided by Duke Energy and Florida Power & Light. SVEC is in close communication with both companies as they work to restore these services.
