As night falls on the fourth day of restoration, power has been restored to all 13 of SVEC’s substations and SVEC, it’s contractors and fellow electric cooperatives are working around the clock to get the lights back on.
With power to about 47% of the co-op’s consumer-members, SVEC CEO Mike McWaters is thankful for the hard work of all involved. “We are grateful to those who have left their homes and families to help us in our time of need. I am especially proud of how our SVEC team has welcomed and led these new friends as we work together on behalf of our community.”
Thus far into the restoration process, crews have discovered 978 broken poles and 300 damaged transformers, making damage from Hurricane Idalia unlike any SVEC has experienced before. These numbers will likely increase as the work continues.
