SVEC proudly continues its tradition of outreach to its community, including its outstanding support of United Way through multiple fundraising avenues.
During the 2017-2018 United Way community fundraising campaign, SVEC employees committed $5,076 through payroll deduction, a more than 11% increase over the prior year. These contributions were matched 50 cents to the dollar by the cooperative. Employee-organized fundraisers brought in an additional $526.
The cooperative additionally continued its tradition of sponsoring Santa’s visit from the North Pole to the Lake City Holiday Inn and Suites’ Breakfast with Santa event which benefitted United Way.
SVEC was also able to supplement its support of United Way with a $5,000 Sharing Success Matching Grant from CoBank. Part of the Farm Credit System, CoBank provides loans, leases and financing for agriculture businesses and rural utilities.
Altogether, the cooperative’s support of United Way’s 2017-2018 campaign totals $13,267.
Already, SVEC has raised funds toward United Way’s 2018-2019 campaign through its First Annual Suwannee Valley Charity Cornhole Tournament which contributed $3,157.
“Not only is United Way of Suwannee Valley very fortunate to have SVEC as such a tremendous supporter, it is always such a pleasure to participate with the SVEC employees in their efforts. This is a company which cultivates community participation through the engagement of the company in many community efforts as well as individual employee volunteerism,” stated Rita Dopp, United Way of Suwannee Valley executive director.
Many people in our community have unmet needs,” said SVEC Executive Vice President and CEO, Michael McWaters. “We support the United Way because they are able to leverage our contributions to help their affiliated agencies meet those needs.”
