George Scott

President

District 8

Although he does not claim to be a native, he and his wife, Bonnie, moved to Suwannee County 27 years ago; making it the longest place they have lived during their 56 years of marriage. Suwannee County is their definition of home, and both enjoy serving their community. Participation in the Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative Round‑Up program is one meaningful way he contributes during this phase of life.

Shortly after high school, George joined the U.S. Navy and went on to build a 23‑year career, beginning as a seaman and retiring as a lieutenant commander due to opportunities that military service provided to him. During that time, he served aboard five ships and was stationed in Barbados and South Korea. Throughout his naval career, Bonnie provided the family stability that helped raise their three children.

Following his retirement from the Navy in 1990, he began a new career in facilities management, working in hospitals and later at what is now Florida Gateway College. There, he was able to participate in campus life, including serving one year as Chair of the College Senate and participating as a panelist for Constitution Day, answering student questions along with, as he notes, keeping the lights on and the bathrooms working.

After 12 years of retirement, his time is now spent in church activities and volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem, both of which he finds deeply rewarding. He also enjoys historical reenactment with the Second Florida Cavalry and helping recreate historic events. Additionally, The Scott Blueberry Farm, which he and his wife purchased, has opened to the public each year under their ownership.

For George, home is where you are happy, and Suwannee County has given more than he and his family can ever repay.
