Easter in the Nation’s Oldest City

While many will attend Easter services in one of St. Augustine’s historic churches or rise early for an oceanfront sunrise service, the city’s Easter festivities can be considered unique. Yes, there are Easter egg hunts and a parade featuring the beloved big-eared bunny, but there’s also the Royal Family Transfer of Power, Knighting Ceremony, and Blessing of the Fleet, which harkens back to the city’s Spanish roots. Lastly, after Easter services, all are invited to dress in their most outrageous Easter hats and costumes for the Easter Promenade, where more than $3,000 in prizes are awarded in categories like “Best Dressed Couple” or “Family From Farthest Away.”
