SVEC Preparing for Hurricane Michael

SVEC has activated its Emergency Response Plan in anticipation of potentially severe weather from Hurricane Michael. The plan lays out the duties and responsibilities of all employees during major storms and incorporates lessons learned during Hurricanes Hermine and Irma.

“We’re hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst,” said SVEC CEO Michael McWaters. “While we continue to monitor storm forecasts from multiple weather services, we are working with our statewide association to line up help from other electric cooperatives.”

SVEC encourages its consumer-members to have a plan for riding out extended power outages and reminds them that outages can be quickly and conveniently reported using the cooperative’s SmartHub online account management tool. Those who wish to report and track outages from their mobile device can download the SmartHub mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
