Most of the remaining outages are in western Hamilton County where tornadoes were sited late yesterday. The extensive damage has slowed our restoration efforts. We believe we will have the majority (99%) of system outages restored by 5 pm today, with the remaining few being restored by 11 pm.
Crews worked through the night and we anticipate getting the power back on to the majority of those still out by lunchtime. Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) has activated its Emergency Response Plan in anticipation of potentially severe weather from Hurricane Dorian.
At 12:18 p.m. this afternoon, Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) completed restoration of service to its consumers who lost power due to Hurricane Michael.
As of 7:00 a.m., 94 percent of Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) consumers had power. Eighty-six workers from SVEC, contractors and mutual aid cooperatives are in the field and expect to restore power to everyone who can receive service by tonight. Restoration of service to homes damaged by the storm may take longer.
SVEC continues to prepare for Hurricane Michael and its anticipated wide-spread power outages. We have mutual aid from cooperatives in Florida and neighboring states standing by to help, and our crews are prepared to work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power.
