Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, if desired
  • 1 teaspoon butter flavoring
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat oven to 350 F.

Spray a 9-by-12-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Line the bottom with parchment paper, then spray parchment.

In a large bowl, cream butter, brown sugar and egg yolk together until smooth. Mix in butter flavoring and vanilla. Stir in flour until incorporated. Spread batter in prepared pan. Bake for 25 minutes.

Remove pan from oven. Evenly sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Return to oven for 5 more minutes.

Remove from oven and allow to rest for 3 minutes. Gently spread melted chocolate on surface, covering toffee bars. If desired, sprinkle pecans on top.

Allow bars to cool completely in pan. Slide bars out using parchment paper and slice into squares.
